The Miss Atom Pagent is underway – a Russian beauty pagent where female nuclear and chemical scientists show the beauties under the radiation suit. The purpose of the contest is to kind of humanize and promote the work in the field of nuclear and chemical sciences.
The winners get all kinds of neat prizes, too. I read that this year the prizes include trips to Cuba, Morocco, and Croatia – and, of course, diamonds and makeup.
It’s a web only contest, so you vote for the winners and they are selected the evening before the Russian holiday Woman’s Day on March 8th.
I took the liberty of babelfishing the main page for translation to English.
If that doesn’t work, this is the “main page” and this is babel fish.
Here are some of the Top Entrants when I was looking today.
#1 : Олеся Шестакова
#2 : Дарья Дубровина
#3 : Юлия Нечаева
And some photos of the ladies from the story on ABC-News

whoa, those Russians scientists are HOT! I guess James Bond was right.
Some of them are pretty hot – I just hope none of them are radioactive.
