co-creator, illustrator & writing credits

D.Bethel took to the pen and paper being inspired by reading X-Men and Image comics in the 90′s era of Jim Lee’s muscle-bound mutants with muscles popping off muscles beneath an army of pouches. See some of those early sketches…

Bethel studied and then worked for a short time in animation before returning to study English at Cal Poly. He earned his Master’s in English (Composition and Rhetoric) at California State University, Sacramento in 2012.

Some of his favorite creators include: Darwyn Cooke, David Mazzucchelli, Eric Powell, Doug TenNapel, Paul Pope, Jeff Lemire, and the current Prophet crew: Brandon Graham, Simon Roy, and Giannis Milanogiannis.

Co-Creator & Lead Writer

Eben E.B. Burgoon has been writing short fiction, sketch comedy, and spec scripts for more than a decade.  The past six years, he has been focusing on writing comic books, and co-created “Eben07: Covert Custodian,” an espionage-humor webcomic about the janitors who clean the mess left behind by super-spies, and now is focused on his new project, B-Squad: Soldiers of Misfortune, which follows the ongoing adventures of a misfit group of mercenaries sent on equally dangerous and ridiculous missions.

This past year, Burgoon was an Editor’s Choice pick for Best of Sacramento for his work in comic books, collaborated with the Crocker Art Museum to start “Crocker-Con” this past November, was part of the inaugural Sacramento Arts & Business Council’s Flywheel Creative Economy Incubator, and orchestrated a successful Kickstarter campaign for B-Squad that raised over $6000 in 30 days.

Eben studied international relations at Chico State and he minored in creative writing. He founded a Chico State improv troupe, has performed long-form improv shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and studied sketch comedy writing with Chicago’s Second City. Burgoon is an avid lover of animation, television, and film.

Eben currently works for 916 Ink, a non-profit that transforms everyday kids into authors, developing and teaching their comic book program. He is based in Sacramento, CA.
